Unearth Malee blossomed from the rich cultural surroundings that creator, Marie Pechkam, grew up in.  Her Thai-American background gave her the daily fortune of experiencing exotic Asian cuisine.  It was her mother’s kitchen that offered the perfect setting for her intrigue of savory essences of fragrant Asian herbs and spices.  Smells of cilantro, lemongrass, ginger, kaffir lime, coconut milk, tamarind, and jasmine rice would permeate throughout the house.

“Malee” in Thai refers to a jasmine flower.  It is also a name passed down three generations in Marie’s family.  Named after her Grandmother, she longed to identify with her Thai roots, but many times felt the conflict of values of being an Asian American.  She aspired to discover what her culture meant to her and how she could relate that with what she loves…the all natural.  Already an avid researcher, she uncovered a world of profuse amounts of chemicals put into body care products in a loosely regulated cosmetic industry.  With that knowledge she aimed to create her own body products without the use of chemicals.  It was through her dedication of creating purely natural products that Unearth Malee flourished.

Unearth Malee is an unleashing of your culture within and allowing it to develop and become something beautiful.   It is the blend of what is important to you with something pure and enticing.  For Marie it was her love for the all natural, the intrigue in understanding her cultural roots, and desire for being socially and environmentally responsible in what she loves that “Unearthed Malee."
